Chora / Kariye MosqueThe former Chora church, now Kariye Mosque, is known for its late Byzantine mosaics and frescoes. It is an active place of worship, so tourist access follows rules that differ from those of a conventional museum.Area: Edirnekapı, near the land walls.Getting there: Walk uphill from the Balat–Fener area or take a short taxi ride.Time needed: About 1 hour.Cost: €20 for foreign tourist visits, according to the current visitor-information listing. Worship access has separate rules and should not be treated as a sightseeing ticket.Visiting note: The listing gives tourist hours of 09:00–18:00 and states that tourist visits are closed on Fridays. Check current notices and prayer-time restrictions before travelling.4. Eyüp and Pierre Loti HillEyüp Sultan Mosque is an important pilgrimage site. Above the district, Pierre Loti Hill offers views down the Golden Horn, with cafés and tea gardens nearby.Area: Eyüpsultan, upper Golden Horn.Getting there: Take the T5 tram, a bus or a suitable Golden Horn ferry to Eyüp, then use the TF2 Eyüp–Pierre Loti cable car. Plan around the actual ferry route rather than assuming every crossing has the same duration or fare.8. Kadıköy MarketKadıköy Çarşı brings together fishmongers, delis, pickle shops, coffee sellers and small restaurants. Browse the stalls, compare menus and choose a few dishes rather than rushing through the market.Area: Central Kadıköy, Asian side.Getting there: Take a ferry to Kadıköy or use the metro and local transport connections.Time needed: 2–3 hours.Cost: Free to enter and browse. Üsküdar and Maiden's TowerÜsküdar's waterfront faces the old-city skyline and the Maiden's Tower. You can enjoy the view from the shore without buying a tower ticket. Entering the tower museum requires a separate boat journey.Area: Üsküdar and Salacak, Asian side.Getting there: Take a ferry or Marmaray to Üsküdar. Beylerbeyi PalaceBeylerbeyi Palace is a 19th-century Ottoman summer palace beside the Bosphorus, near the 15 July Martyrs Bridge. It combines palace interiors with a waterfront setting.Area: Üsküdar, Asian Bosphorus.Getting there: Take a coastal bus or taxi from Üsküdar.Time needed: 1–2 hours.Cost: 800 TL for adult foreign visitors. Çamlıca HillÇamlıca Hill offers broad views over Istanbul and the Bosphorus when visibility is good.
